McAnderson to LB? 
In his article this past Thursday, Tom Keegan posed three position switches for the football team that had me a little puzzled -- DB Raymond Brown to WR, FB Brandon McAnderson to LB and Marcus Herford to running back. Obviously, Brown slid down the depth chart quite a bit in the secondary this season, but it still seems a little odd to take a player out of an area that seems thin and move him to a wide receiver group that seems to have a number of "potential" players. By the end of the season Dexton Fields was pulling in quite a few balls per game. Either Marcus Herford or Marcus Henry will probably step up to be solid at some point -- hopefully 2007. Jeff Foster should be able to fill the Jonathan Lamb role. For depth Tertavian Ingram is still out there and I don't believe they've given up on Xavier Rambo yet.

Taking Brandon McAnderson out the backfield means Keegan must know that Angus Quigley has fully recovered from his season-ending injury. Pretty gutsy to pull McAnderson out and leave Jake Sharp as the only game-experienced back out there. Are we short of linebackers? I'd say a factor in Blake Lawrence's decision to choose the land of corn was a quick look at the depth chart. Certainly not the only reason to choose NU, but it looks like this sophomore crew at KU has things locked down for a couple of years.

I can see the appeal of moving Herford to running back though. He looks pretty good on kick returns and generally looks good when he has the ball in his hands. I suppose the question would be whether or not he could take the physical punishment of the position. It might be worth an experiment in the spring, but you'd think that time would be better spent improving his pass catching skills. He can get plenty of "carries" at wide out with a little improvement and maybe some consistent play out of the quarterback position.

Still, Keegan has access to the program. If he's mentioning these ideas, there must be something going on. Should make for another interesting spring.

Talib a Second Teamer
Aqib Talib is on the SI.com All-American Second team. Talib led the Big 12 this year with six interceptions.

McAnderson is a truly talented player and would probably do well at linebacker. I think we need him more on offense. I think he has a future as a NFL fullback so let him play to that strength. He has been an excellent special teams guy and makes lots of tackles there. It would be interesting to see him play both ways. I think we have enough players at linebacker so keep him on offense. They need to get this guy more touches next year. I know we had Cornish this year but next season it will be necessary to have a guy like B-Mac get touches to help the offense.

I don't know if Herford is shifty enough for running back. He seems like a straight line burner. He needs to work his tail off all off-season running routes and improving his pass catching.

Ray Brown to wideout makes the most sense. I wonder if he would be a good safety? Should be interesting. One of the cool and intriguing aspects of college football is all the position changes.

BMac is really under-rated. It does seem a shame that he isn't on the field more. I thought he should have got more carries early in games this year -- to soften up the defense. Just three or four carries in the first two series. Then hit them with the speed and strength of Cornish.

I think Brown was projected as a safety originally. If he's not going to make an impact in the secondary, definitely let's try him at wideout. Moving players out of the secondary makes me a little nervous with all the troubles they've had.
